LG fridges have a strong following for good reason, they are quiet, efficient and well featured. The brand is also well known in the trade for one specific issue, the linear compressor fitted to many models over the past decade has a documented history of losing cooling capacity, which LG itself acknowledged with extended compressor warranties in some markets.
That makes the right first step obvious. Before anyone talks about a new fridge, find out whether the fault is the compressor at all. Fans, sensors, control boards and defrost faults produce similar symptoms and cost far less to put right.
Common LG faults we see
Fridge slowly losing its cool. The classic complaint, food not as cold as it used to be, then warmer week by week. On some LG models this is compressor wear, but it can just as easily be a defrost fault or a failing fan. A proper diagnosis separates the cheap fix from the big one.
Compressor clicking or not starting. Clicking, humming or a compressor that will not start can be a relay or electrical issue rather than the compressor itself. It is one of the cases where guessing wrong gets expensive fast.
Error codes and control faults. LG displays fault codes for fan, sensor, defrost and communication errors. The code plus the symptom usually narrows the fault to a specific component before the toolbox is even open.
Water pooling or ice sheet in the freezer. Water under the crisper drawers or a sheet of ice on the freezer floor usually means a blocked defrost drain, a common and very fixable fault on frost free LG models.
